Woa Steve! What happened here?? I see you have a dark side : ) You have been doing some interesting new stuff lately. I actually really like the pen & ink and whatever you did for the background...I am trying to figure out if that is marker or a color wash. As always, I love your illustration.

Thanks for the nice comments! Kate -- the background is actually some gold ink I found at the local art store. I did this picture to try it out. In real life it's shiny. And, by the way, the creature is Maat, the Egyptian monster who would devour your heart in the afterlife--if your heart weighs more than a feather! If your heart is lighter than a feather, you'r safe.

This is very different than the other one! Equally as lovely though. Great story too!
Love it!! I think we were on the same wavelength for this one! BTW-- Ma'at is actually the goddess of truth whose feather (and sometimes the whole goddess) sits on the scale. The scale sits in the hall of the two truths, named for her presence.

And some places(including wikipedia) describe her as a lioness, rather than a chimera of three others.
